How far can Collingwood go this season?
It’s a question that has to be asked. All my expectations per season 2022 have been upended. The Magpies are playing great football. From an opposition perspective, they are a devilishly difficult side to play against. And they keep winning: six in a row now, with a broken North Melbourne next, followed by Adelaide and Essendon.
I have been holding off on this post a little. Last week’s win over Greater Western Sydney should have been a smashing, with 33 scoring shots to 17. Inaccuracy nearly got us last night against the Suns, too (I was there; here’s my match report for The Age). And yet the boys just keep finding a way.
With eight minutes to go in the last quarter, I thought we were gone. Izak Rankine — a seriously good player — had ripped the game away from us. But we had our own matchwinner and his name was Nick Daicos. That 50-metre switch across half-forward to find his brother, who didn’t have to break stride, was to die for.
